Orange Bell Pepper

Rooftop Container Garden Vegetable
I took this picture yesterday and when I returned home today it had turned completely bright orange. After admiring its beauty for a awhile I plucked it and ate it. Very crisp with a mild sweetness and a hint of spice. It was delicious!

This weird weather

Bambino Eggplant
has me concerned. Since I started late this year my peppers and eggplants have yet to mature. I had assumed that late August would be the time I would be able to harvest from these plants, but the unusually cool weather has slowed their growth. I'll be able to get something from the bell and hot peppers, but the eggplants have completely stalled. I grew these mini eggplants well suited for containers. They're supposed to grow to 3 inches in width before you can pick them and so far the largest ones are only 1.5-2 inches wide. I'm hoping for just one heat wave so I can at least harvest one or two.

Hello

Welcome to Bucolic Bushwick. This year I decided to join the growing trend of urban gardeners and grow organic, pesticide-free food in less than farm like settings. I started a little late in the season, kept minimal records and made a few mistakes, but I am happy with what I've grown and pleasantly surpised about how personally and emotionally satisfying gardening is that I'm going to do it again next year. Watch my garden unfold right here!
